Determination and Love

I am leaving the country on Friday (THIS FRIDAY HOLY CRAP), and I'm still two swoon blocks away from finishing Swoon #1. I need to bust my butt and get those done, I refuse to leave for three months and not have that thing finished.

GOALS FROM LAST WEDNESDAY:
1. Finish quilting my Quilt Barf quilt
        DONE
2. Piece together Swoon Block #8
        Not even a little bit.
3. Start and finish the Old Maid's Puzzle block in the Sister's Ten BOM
        DONE

The one on the right looks like summery candy corn.

I'm running into trouble with my BOM, I'm running out of fabric. And since Mendocino has been out of print for YEARS, I'm having to get creative with the solids I have. Thank goodness I only have two more months of blocks left...

So, AnnaAllison, and I did a little 20-somethings swippity swap, and it was SO AWESOME. Anna made us pillowcases, Allison made pencil/crochet hook rolls, and I made mug rugs and mini quilts.

I knew that I wanted to do a Lone Star block, since I've been admiring Lone Star quilts for ages. I found a superb tutorial for a Lone Star block without any y-seams, so I gave it a whirl.

They're models.

Anna's mug rug turned out perfect, if I do say so myself. This was the first block I made, and I'm so proud of it! She loves lime green and bright colors, and I thought that pop of yellow would really make the block stand out. I quilted it with different color threads in the shape of the star.

In our email thread, Allison let slip that she loves Flea Market Fancy. Well, since I'm making a Swoon Quilt out of FMF, I busted into my stash and made this lovely thing :) It's colorful and busy and very heavily quilted (which I've never tried before, but worked out nicely!) and I like how it's balanced. But that's just my opinion.

And these are the gifts I received in return :)

LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT OH MY GOD.
But for real. That tiny chicken print, I have been eyeing for MONTHS. Oh Anna, you know me so well. I'm taking this pillowcase with me overseas for SURE.

And the WORLD'S MOST PERFECT PENCIL ROLL
Oh I absolutely died when I opened this. It's so cute and the colors fit me to a T!

Both of my friends sent goodies too (as if these fantastic gifts weren't enough...) fat quarters, ribbon, tape, and CANDY. I am a lucky lucky girl to have friends like them :)

NOW ON TO SEWING.

  1. DUDE. Your mug rug IS perfect. SO perfect! I love it so much! Even my boyfriend looked at it and said "Wow. That looks really nice." Then he touched the quilting in AWE. Because it's THAT GOOD. :)

Can I borrow a picture of the pillow case? I definitely didn't take any pictures myself...

HAVE FUN OVERSEAS AND STUFF! :D

I'm so in love with the little owl in the middle of that house block on the pillowcase!

  4. Wow your mug rug is awesome too, no surprise there! The pillow you received is just perfect too. :) Sew your heart out while you're still here, but email me if you can when we're both abroad and in need of some quilt talk. And I can't miss another opportunity to say thank you again, so very much, for my wonderful mini quilt!
