WIP Wednesday: Cheery Squares

Once again, I apologize for my lack of blogging. I've been lacking in energy, and last week was spring break. I went to Nashville to visit with my mom, which was nice. I got a lot of sewing done!

Right now, I'm working on three quilts: A tshirt quilt for my uncle, a baby quilt for a friend of a friend, and a scrappy trip along. I started cutting out squares for my uncle's quilt, but I ran out of interfacing and had to order more, so that got put to the side. I've got all of my strips cut for the STA, now I just need to sew them into squares and then a quilt top! In my last post, I finished my quilt barf top. Really, I just need to get something for the back and some batting and I can finish that up too.

But over break, I finished all of the squares for the baby quilt I'm working on. It's LeAnne Ballard's Marmalade Squares quilt from the Moda Bakeshop. It is the cutest quilt, and I thought it would be perfect for the little girl that's coming in July. I got to try my hand at machine applique for the first time, and I'll be free motion quilting this. Big first times here!

The photo is sideways, but the effect is the same.

The color pallet we decided on was "garden in spring at sunset", if that makes sense. Lots of soft colors, lots of green, and just the right amount of femininity without screaming "LOOK AT ME I'M A BABY GIRL".

Those patchwork squares, man. They look so easy, but it's really hard for me to keep everything straight. Oh well. I think it all looks awesome, and I'm really excited to finish it up!

Linking up to WIP Wednesday!

    1. Thank you very much! I've gotten better at wrangling all the seams so they line up, haha!

  2. I just found you blog and after reading your About Me you're so right! I felt like I was alone being a college quilter but after reading your blog and The Crooked Banana I'm happy to say I was wrong. I don't actually have a blog yet but I'd love to in the near future. I wanted to say too that I really love the colors of these quilt blocks, it's going to be a perfect quilt. Since I didn't find an email on your homepage this post is long sorry! Oh and my stash is really nothing to speak of either, but if you'd be at all interested in being in a charm or fabric swap I could organize one. You can contact me at knausallison@yahoo.com if you're up for the idea. Keep on creating!

  3. That is going to be SO CUTE. Yes. It deserves caps. It's that cute.

I know what you mean about getting seams to match up. It's so annoying when they're just a little bit off... I'm dealing with that on my scrappy trip. Mostly I think it's down to shoddy cutting more than shoddy sewing... although sometimes it is the sewing because I hate using pins and avoid it when I can! I have stabbed myself SO MANY TIMES. Bleh to pins!

No idea what I'm talking about anymore. But UM. Yeah. Keep quilting O.O

  4. Your squares are looking great!! I use Clover Fork Pins to line my seams up and most of the time they line up nicely. It feels like cheating but I am not a fan of unpicking :)
