WIP Wednesday: Scrappy Trips

I finished my Scrappy Trip Along squares last night! FINALLY.

All piled up and ready to be assembled.

I was really concerned when making the squares that the finished quilt would just look stupid, but once I laid it out on the floor, I felt a LOT better about it.

It's really skinny, which is bumming me out. I'd really like to add a border or SOMETHING, just to make it a bit larger. I had some leftover strips of blue fabric that I used in the quilt, and was thinking of subdividing the top with those strips, but I don't really know...

Does anyone know of anyone who added a border to their STA? How on EARTH do you add a border to such a busy quilt?

  1. I don't think I'd sub-divide it. I love the pattern as it is. I haven't made one of these, but can't you make more blocks and add them to the side for more width? I agree about the border, it looks great without!

    1. I am officially OUT of all the fabric I used in this quilt, so I can't really make more blocks. My stash was really small, haha.

  2. I thought about adding a border to mine, but then just added another row to even it out and make it a tad wider. If you do a border maybe in linen or a neutral solid of some sort. Hip Hip Hooray on getting them done!

    1. Hmm, I hadn't thought about linen. That might be a nice textural difference. Hip hip hooray indeed!

  3. Love your scrappy trip quilt! Chris, from Frecklemama, added two outside borders to hers and it looked great. Good luck:-)

  4. I think a solid border (at least for the first border) would be your best bet. Trying to use a print might just get too crazy! Maybe you should sketch it out in a notebook or on the computer? Add a border or.two, experiment with color and size until you like it and then find some fabric to carry out your plan?

It looks great so far! I'm sure you'll figure something awesome out :)

    1. Yeah, another print would definitely start getting ridiculous. I'll look at it more tonight and see which colors would work best. Thanks! And sorry for my super vague email last night..... tired Couch was tired.

  5. I would do a darker solid like a dark gray. That would let the other colours just POP!
